As 2013 comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to thank each of you for your hard work and commitment to the Identity Management industries and specifically to Kantara Initiative. You have supported some amazing accomplishments this year! The size of the Kantara Initiative Board of Trustees has more than doubled in the last 10 months - a very clear indicator of the trust in Kantara Initiative as a transformative, innovative, and influential organization. Our Membership has grown over the last year. We've welcomed new organizations and enjoy a continued relationship with many long time Members. You have evolved the Identity Assurance Framework to build a path toward service component market recognition. While there's more work to do, the Identity Assurance work has helped to bridge and harmonize governments, commercial, and citizen services. We have doubled the number of Approved CSPs. You have supported relationships with many liaisons and across a number of NSTIC pilots. Identity Relationship Management and the many innovations of the work groups have been well recognized this past year. The Leadership Council has engaged with all of the WGs to ensure each charter is clear and captivating. These are just some examples of what makes Kantara Initiative a unique community of international peers doing really big things in identity. We wish everyone a happy and safe holiday and look forward to all we'll accomplish in 2014! Of possible interest... 2014 Cybersecurity Forum to Focus on Trusted Computing, Security Automation and Information Sharing For Immediate Release: December 17, 2013 * <http://www.nist.gov/public_affairs/disclaimer.cfm> *Contact:* Evelyn Brown <evelyn.brown(a)nist.gov> 301-975-5661 The 2014 Cybersecurity Innovation Forum, to be held January 28-30, 2014, at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Md., will focus on the existing threat landscape and provide presentations and keynotes on current and emerging practices, technologies and standards to protect the nation’s infrastructure, citizens and economic interests from cyberattack. The goal of the forum—sponsored by the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence—is to identify a roadmap for active cyber defense through integrating trusted computing, information sharing and security automation technologies. Meeting organizers are bringing together expertise from the Trusted Computing and Security Automation conferences and discussions on information sharing into a single event. Merging several cybersecurity conferences takes advantage of the synergy of a broader audience of public- and private-sector cybersecurity employees. Keynote speakers include Goldman Sachs Managing Director and Chief Information Risk Officer Phil Venables, Special Assistant to the President and Cybersecurity Coordinator Michael Daniels, and Chief Information Security Officer for the County of Los Angeles Robert Pittman. Other keynotes will cover industry views of the security threat, the Presidential Policy Directive on Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience (PPD 21), impacts of PPD 21 and Executive Order 13636 on improving the cybersecurity of critical infrastructure, and the U.S. government’s collaboration with industry to secure our nation’s cybersecurity. The forum offers four tracks—Trusted Computing, Security Automation, Information Sharing, and Research—where attendees will hear from government and industry experts and have opportunities for collaboration and networking. The Department of Homeland Security, the National Security Agency and NIST are organizing the event. Dear Kantara Community, This message is to advise that as of January 1st 2014 Heather Flanagan will have completed her role as a Kantara Initiative support team member. Heather has been integral to keeping our organization moving and I know she has impacted your groups significantly. We can't thank her enough for her contributions to the organization. The great news is that this is not only a goodbye to "Heather the Supporter", but it's a welcome to "Heather the Member". Heather will continue to Heather the Kantara Initiative Individual Member. While we're going to miss Heather in the support role, we are really looking forward to "Heather the Member" coming soon to a group near you. *Thank you again for all of your support and efforts Heather.
