Colleagues, In recent weeks, some of you have provided feedback on ways we could improve our marketing and public relations, ranging from our core messages to the website and wiki layout. The Trustees have also discussed this at length here in Hillsboro and resolved to form a Marketing subcommittee of those folks with interest, ideas and skills in this area, to carry ideas forward into reality. Please give this consideration. We are interested in having any willing participants - both those currently active in Kantara as well as others with marketing skills who are not yet involved. Please pass the message along to your colleagues and consider helping out. Marketing is critical to Kantara's perception both externally and internally. We have some truly great work going on, and we need to tell both the world and ourselves, all about it. Please express your interest by Monday 21st March so that we can make a start on this exciting and fulfilling endeavor. Announcing the formation of the Interoperability WG - Call for Participation

The Kantara Initiative is expanding its focus beyond SAML 2.0 and is working to cultivate and manage new certification programs covering a broad spectrum of developing identity and access protocols. Some of the emerging standards currenlty under consideration for testing are: . WS-Trust . WS-Security . OpenID . InfoCard . Oauth . XRD To support the development of the new test procedures needed for this program, the Kantara Initiative is announcing the formation of the Kantara Initiative Interoperability Work Group (IOPWG) - chartered to support the Kantara Initiative Interoperability Program through the development of Test Procedures to be used by the Interoperability Review Board, regardless of protocol. The IOPWG will work closely with the Interoperability Review Board (IRB), the Kantara Initiative sub-committee responsible for member oversight of the Interoperability Program. In addition, the IOPWG will be available to provide expertise and technical support to the IRB during the course of any of the Kantara Initiative Interoperability events, and will assist in resolving questions of protocol interpretation that may arise among test participants. If you'd like to get involved in the Kantara Initiative Interoperability Program to recommend test procedures for such emerging standards as WS-Trust, WS-Security. OpenID, InfoCard, Oauth and XRD, the IOPWG is the group for you! RSA Workshop a Resounding Success

All - Many thanks to all who attended the Kantara Initiative Workshop at RSA this year. The room was _packed_ (with standing room only at one point), and I heard a number of fantastic comments from attendees about the presentations... many who wanted more detail on some presentations. Along those lines, many thanks to the many energetic and informative presenters and panelists we had on stage. Of course, PayPal's Andrew "Rock Star" Nash was a crowd favorite, as was Google's Eric Sachs (too bad Chris Messina was wrestled to the ground by the RSA registration system... ask him that story, it's hilarious). Add Patrick Harding (Ping Identity) into the mix talking about securely federating clouds, and you've got an appetizer to his company's all-out party the following night. Rounding out our party was Matthew Gardiner from CA (who earns the dubious distinction of being the first person to utter the term "cloud" during the conference), as well as Chris Sharp from MEDecision who offered up a peek into how the real world deals with cloud identity. We were also able to dive into more into cloud services with Oracle's Uppili Srinivasan and his panelists Gail Coury (Oracle), John Donovan (NetApp), and  Archie Reed (HP). Adding to the panel party was Matthew Gardiner's cross-curring Identity Services Roadmap with Mark Coderre (Aetna), Debbie Bucci (NIH), and Todd Inskeep (Bank of America). ... and who could resist the Prezi(c) by Paul Madsen (NTT), representing his gold-hording country on stage (despite the fact he actually missed the final hockey game while in the air). Besides, who else would include in a presentation about the state of OpenID, SAML, InfoCard, and OAuth a slide depicting the dangers of incorrectly checking for dirty diapers? Finally... much and many thanks to Dervla and Joni for rolling in early on Sunday to set up, and late on Monday to break down. Not to mention all the lead-up work they did (including hounding folks like me to get in our presentations). Thanks! Winner of first annual Kantara Initiative MVP award

On behalf of Roger Martin, Interim Executive Director ========================================= Throughout our first year of work within the Kantara Initiative, it has become clear how much energy and excitement there has been around innovation and harmonization across various identity projects. It takes a lot of effort to help foster the development of identity specifications, operational frameworks and related programs. We have been fortunate to be supported in this effort by so many dedicated partners and individual contributors. In an effort to recognize, in some small part, the enormous effort put forth by the participants, we initiated the first annual Kantara Initiative Most Valuable Participant (MVP) award for 2009. The community as a whole nominated individuals who they thought worked the hardest, showed the most leadership, and provided the most valuable contributions to the work of our Work Groups and Discussion Groups during 2009. The Leadership Council then selected the MVP from the outstanding list of nominees. It is my pleasure to announce that Trent Adams has won the first annual Kantara Initiative MVP award. Trent will be recognized at Kantara Initiative's annual Identity Workshop at the RSA Security Conference in San Francisco on March 1st. While this award only recognizes a single individual, I hope you will also join me in congratulating all of the tireless contributors who have helped make this a strong first year for the Kantara Initiative.
