Hello Kantara Community, The Kantara Initiative is ultimately designed by its Members. This week, two ballots have gone out: 1. Kantara Initiative All-Member Ballot - Identity Assurance Framework and 2. Kantara Initiative Trustee At-Large 2013 Ballot If the At-Large ballot is passed, the Government of Canada and TERENA will be re-elected to the Kantara Board of Trustees. Dear Members and Friends, As the year comes to a close and we enter 2013, we remember both the difficult and joyous events of 2012. We had significant success in Kantara with 2 CSPs, 3 new Assessors, new and continuing Memberships and lots of great work from the WGs/DGs! We welcomed Heather Flanagan to our small PM support team this year.... and sadly, we wished the best to RL "Bob" Morgan on his journey to 'the cloud'. While we reflect on the past year, we look ahead with renewed hope and energy to push forward a wonderful 2013. Kantara Initiative thanks you for your support during 2012. In the coming year, we remain committed to help you and your organization achieve successes in Identity Management initiatives that lead to growth and exciting new opportunities. Call for nominations: Kantara Initiative At-Large Trustee positions

Hello Kantara Initiative Members, This message announces the opening nominations for 2 Kantara Organizational Members to become Board of Trustee members for a term ending December 31, 2013. Once nominations close we will continue the process toward a Member ballot to determine the 2 new election winners. The newly seated At-Large Trustees will have the benefit of participating in Board level discussions. Additionally, each newly seated Board Member will have one vote toward the Board of Trustees quorum. The 2 Organizational Members who garner the new at large Trustee seats will follow their own internal process to select a representative (one from each organization for each new seat) who will actually participate on the Board of Trustees. Note that the Board of Trustees meets bi-weekly (twice per month) alternating morning and evening calls to make participation possible from all parts of the world. Who can be nominated: All Kantara Organizational Members (including Government Agencies) are eligible. Organizational Members may nominate other Organizational Members or even self-nominate for this benefit. Current At-Large trustees may be renominated. The procedure for the election of these trustees will be determined and overseen by the Trustees, except that that all current members that are L0, L1, L2, AND L3 levels will have only one (1) vote per organization and that the top two (2) vote getters will be elected. There is no limit as to the number of terms that these organizations may serve as Trustees. Regarding Kantara Home Office - NJ

Hello Kantara Community, While most of the Kantara staff is virtual, you may not be aware that Kantara's home office is located in Piscataway, New Jersey. Due to the storm Sandy, some of the processing of membership applications and invoices has been slowed this week. Many are still with out power, internet and phone. Call for participation: Attributes In Motion Work Group

Kantara Initiative is pleased to announce the formation of the Attributes In Motion Work Group (AIMWG). Find out below how to join this exciting new group! This Work Group will create a set of best practice documents around: * The handling of attributes by Identity Providers, Relying Parties, and Service Providers * The definition and proposed use for contexts * The definition, best use, requirements and criteria of an Attribute Broker The Work Group will also continue the work started by the Attribute Management Discussion Group to keep the Repository of links to know work in the attribute space up to date, making sure that relevant work from other Kantara Work Groups as well as outside organizations and governments are collected and shared. The Work Group will explore the concept of an Attribute Broker, defining what an Attribute Broker is, the characteristics of a good attribute broker, and how the use of an Attribute Broker enhances privacy. The Kantara Identity Assurance Accreditation and Certification Program assesses applicants against its strict criteria ensuring, among other things, alignment with the OMB 04-04 and NIST 800-63 Levels of Assurance and grants successful candidates of the program the right to use the Kantara Initiative Mark, a symbol of trustworthy identity and credential management services at specified Assurance Levels. The market for high Assurance Level trusted credentials has further been developed by an Office of Management and Budget (OMB) memo issued to U.S. Chief Information Officers (CIOs)[1] that requires LoA 1 certified credentials be implemented for new government service web sites within 90 days of the first TFP final approval or when existing websites are enhanced or upgraded and LoA 2 and 3 non-crypto certified credentials be adopted for higher value U.S. Government agency services within the near term. Kantara Initiative has worked with key market players such as Experian and Symantec to develop an approach where the Kantara Accreditation and Assurance program recognizes service components such as Identity Proofing and Credential Management. Few organizations can perform both services at high levels of assurance. The service component approach allows for components to gain recognition and visibility for stand-alone services and for development of interesting and innovative partnerships to provide full Credential Provider Services that offer both Identity Proofing and Credential Management life-cycle services. The service component recognition is also in line with the White House's identity-management initiative to make online transactions more trusted. This effort, known as the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC), is aimed at creating a US national Internet-identity ecosystem that uses interoperable technology standards and policies to authenticate consumers, organizations and IT infrastructure. Kantara Initiative is receiving applications to Accredit Assessors and Certify Credential Service Providers (CSPs), Identity Proofing and Credential Management service components to issue and manage trusted credentials for ICAM and non-ICAM Trust Framework ecosystems. The broad and unique cross section of industry and multi-jurisdictional stakeholders, within the Kantara Membership, have the opportunity to create profiles that add additional criteria to the core Identity Assurance Framework for applicability to their specific communities of trust. ID-WSF live deployments?

Hi I am currently trying to compile the list of live deployments of various identity federation technologies. Some are easy to spot, and some are not so much. In particular, I am looking for ID-WSF 2.0 deployments. I know TAS3 is ID-WSF but that is not a "live deployment" but rather a research project. KATSO by Finish government is what I could find so far. I would appreciate very much if you can point me to the relevant information. Kudos and a Fond Farewell to Dervla!

Dear Community, Some of you may be aware that Kantara's own Dervla O'Reilly recently submitted her resignation. For others of you, this may be news. I wanted to take a moment to recognize the contributions Derlva has made to Kantara over the years. First, let me note that, it has been my privilege to work with Dervla for the last ~8 years both in Kantara and previously in other incarnations. Dervla has consistently brought the following qualities to her work environment: consistency, eye for detail, care for quality of work, team work, positive attitude and unending dependability. Dervla has made sure that we've enjoyed not only well planned events but a bit of fun too. She has consistently taken care of the details that many of us might take for granted. Coordinating the activities of standards and engineering people is no easy task. Yet Dervla has always come through with shinning colors while making it look easy. She's been willing to lend a hand to any activity - even when it was not in her scope of work. Through it all, she's cared about the success of the organization and its people as priority one. Given her track record of service, it should come as no surprise that, in their last meeting, the Board of Trustees made a special note of thanks for the efforts and services Dervla has provided over the years! She's been a pleasure to work with and has become a personal friend to many of us. Dervla, we'll all miss you at Kantara and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors. I'll close by noting that this is not "goodbye", rather it's "see you later" because I'm sure we'll see you again in your next adventures. Dear Community, Kantara Initiative is opening a call for proposals regarding organizational reform of the Kantara governance, bylaws, operating procedures and structures. This call is open to *all organizations and individuals* who wish to submit a proposal. Responses received will be published publicly ONLY where the submitter has provided permission to do so. Kantara Initiative is an organization comprised of Identity Providers, Assessor Organizations, Government Agencies, Service Providers, Research and Educational Organizations, and User Groups which develop and interface with Federated Identity Management Systems. Kantara Initiative recognizes the growing importance of the development, marketplace and adoption of Trusted Identity Systems as a critical piece of Internet Identity Trust layer infrastructure. The goal of the reform will be to evolve Kantara Initiative into a more mature and capable, multi-stakeholder forum that can support and promote the growth of verified Trusted Identity Ecosystems for the broader public good. Key topics for inclusion in responses are: * Proposed changes to Governance via the Bylaws [1]; * Proposed changes to Governance via the Operating Procedures [2]; * Proposed refinements to the mission and vision regarding verification of Trusted Federation Identity Systems [3]; * Opportunities for wider membership and collaboration. **Note: Please make sure to indicate permission to share the contents of your submissions.
