Kantara Invite to Participate: NSTIC, Governance Recommendations, and FFO

Hello, As you are likely aware, the NSTIC team has moved forward with NSTIC Governance Recommendations [1]. If you have not done so already, community members should take time to familiarize themselves with the contents of the response. Note that the contents of the response were directly influenced by input from a broad spectrum of Identity Ecosystem stakeholders - which includes the direct responses from Kantara Initiative stakeholders. Kantara Members and Participants should take pride in the contributions that have been made to date and moving forward to the NSTIC progress. Additionally, the NSTIC team has release a Federal Funding Opportunity (FFO) [2] which captures guidelines and details for stakeholders to submit proposals to request Federal funding of pilot programs and activities which support the fostering of an Identity Ecosystem as identified in the National Strategy. The FFO states that proposals, paper and electronic, must be delivered by not later than 17:00 EST on Wednesday March 7th. While Kantara Initiative will not submit direct proposals for pilots facing NSTIC pilot funding, Kantara will play the role in connecting our Members and partners who plan to submit proposals for this FFO. I am aware that some Kantara WGs/DGs have already started discussing proposal opportunities which they might submit. My suggestion is that Kantara revive our NSTIC DG as a central point for interested stakeholders to gather and manage their discussions for pilots. *Next Steps:* 1. DO - Share thoughts regarding pilot proposals as you find appropriate via this community list with your peers 2. DO - Sign up for the NSTIC DG [3] 3. DO - Share your input via the NSTIC DG and network with your peers 4. DON'T - share information which you or your organization wish to be confidential in nature. (in this case network directly with your peers - Kantara staff will assist you to make contacts as appropriate.) * The NSTIC DG: * - serves as a coordination point for these activities - to assist individuals and organizations to connect to better their respective proposals. - may develop recommendations for organizational activities of Kantara which address the developing NSTIC activities and progress. *FFO IMPORTANT Dates: *Abbreviated proposals, paper and electronic, must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. Abbreviated proposals received after this deadline will not be reviewed or considered. Review of abbreviated proposals and selection of finalists is expected to be completed by Thursday, March 22, 2012. Full proposals, paper and electronic, must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday, April 23, 2012. Full proposals received after this deadline will not be reviewed or considered. The next two months will be marked by several major events and initiatives designed to further the implementation of NSTIC’s vision for an Identity Ecosystem! *Pilot Programs:* Today NIST released a new Federal Funding Opportunity (FFO) for pilot programs to support the NSTIC. Specifically, the NSTIC National Program Office is interested in funding pilot projects with innovative approaches to address some or all of the barriers that have hindered past federated identity efforts, and do so in a way that aligns with and advances the NSTIC’s four guiding principles – that identity solutions will be privacy-enhancing and voluntary, secure and resilient, interoperable, and cost-effective and easy-to-use. These pilots can thus provide a foundation upon which the Identity Ecosystem can be constructed. In some recent cases we have seen spam-related comments which staff has deleted. To avoid spam comments anonymous access should be disabled on profiles and personal spaces. The 2012 NIST/NSTIC IDtrust Workshop will be held March 13-14, 2012 at NIST in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The workshop will focus on how technologies and standards can help the framework of the identity ecosystem coalesce. IDCollaboration Day - sponsorship opportunities

Dear Community, Last year we hosted IDCollaboration Day the Monday before RSA. It was great event and our goal of creating cross network/community collaboration emerged and continues to emerge. The event was valuable for all and we are keen to support this happening again. We are considering Feb. 27. We being - Identity Commons/Internet Identity Workshop and Kantara Initiative. This year we added OASIS IDTrust to the mix collaborating. We have a great venue scouted out right in the heart of Downtown San Francisco and have not yet signed the contract because we aren't sure the budget will work. In order to proceed with booking the venue and opening registration we need to know we have community sponsorship support. We are seeking a few anchor sponsors totaling $4,500 before we are willing to sign the contract. This could be 9 x $500 sponsorships or 3 x $1,500 sponsorships - or some combination thereof. (We can also sell Sponsors an "expensive" ticket if you have the ability to expense a day long event). CloudIDsec WG - Draft Charter for Review and Comment

Hello Community, There is a new draft charter in the works for a proposed Kantara Group focused on Cloud Identity Security. Kantara Participant Neil McEvoy is in process of starting up a new Kantara Initiative<http://kantarainitiative.org/>working group, called ‘ *CloudIDsec*‘ – Cloud Identity and Security Best Practices. Spotlight on Lucy Lynch

Lucy Lynch is the Secretary & Treasurer for Kantara Initiative. Lucy has been involved with Kantara since it’s inception in 2009. Lucy is Director of Trust and Identity Initiatives with the Internet Society (ISOC) and her role is to examine some of the major issues affecting the Internet and to develop projects that will address those problems. Prior to joining the Internet Society, Lucy worked at the University of Oregon as a member of the Academic Computing and Network Applications Group. Her assignments with the University included work with the Network Startup Resource Center (NSRC) – a long-time partner with the Internet Society in bringing network technology and education to the developing world. In addition, she has been an active participant in both the North American Network Operators Group (NANOG) and the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and recently completed a term as Chair of the IETF Administrative Oversight Committee (IAOC). Lucy holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communications from the University of Oregon and has a long history of service in non-profit organizations ranging from mental health counseling to a hands-on science museum. She has been a grant writer, project manager, and a computer programmer. She also once managed the Flying Karamazov Brothers (www.fkb.com/) and hopes to put that unique non-linear managerial experience to good use as she directs new efforts for the Internet Society. Lucy lives in Eugene, Oregon, USA and travels extensively for work. When not traveling Lucy likes reading books and enjoying the outdoors. Hello everyone, I am starting a thesis work on attributes management and aggregation in a federated identity environment and I am trying to figure out how to address attributes resolution in a scenario where there are multiple Attribute Providers. The main issue is: how does a relying party know which AP is responsible for a given attribute?
