Hi Nat, Trent,
Just an observation. In my experience meeting folks from the non-SAML (non-Oasis) world, they typically do not associate SAML with Identity. Not sure why, perhaps they see SAML as just a syntax (like ASN.1). Also few realize that there is a slew of building blocks in saml-core and in the saml-profiles.
cheers,

You bring up a good point... while I can see why the group, being focused on the "social web", might not see SAML as being a major player, perhaps it'd make sense to suggestion a paragraph for inclusion somewhere. Perhaps you or (or someone else on the list) could suggest some reasponable input. It'd need to come in by this Friday, though, as I believe they expect to ratify this report on their next call.

It is kind of strange that they do not touch on SAML at all also. Perhaps should we ping them on it?

If you haven't already seen it, the W3C Social Web Incubator Group recently published it's final report:
http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/socialweb/wiki/FinalReport
Of specific interest to this group is their summary of work taking place around Identity:
http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/socialweb/wiki/FinalReport#Identity
I'm not sure if it's an oversight or was a conscious decision, but it's interesting that there only mention of "trust frameworks" is in a passing reference.
NOTE: I'm not entirely sure of the status of this report... the header indicates it's complete, but there appear to be some remaining questions embedded in the text.
