Hi folks, I had hoped to get this out before our last meeting, but I was bogged down with other duties. In the meantime, I’ve had some good discussions with other MyTerms IC members that helped surface a few additional, heavy-hitting questions. I believe some of them may also be interested in contributing, though they are still working through scheduling issues. That said, attached is my proposal for RIUP to develop a report related to MyTerms. Link to Google Doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1b4Tu5-hngkhf8Lhb-LcwTbGhtW5TKewRwzfX5irU... I think there is a useful RIUP contribution here: a short report examining MyTerms / IEEE 7012-2025 through the lens of underserved populations. MyTerms has the potential to increase individual agency by allowing people, or their agents, to proffer machine-readable privacy terms. However, that promise depends on whether the system works for people who lack current devices, stable internet access, English fluency, technical literacy, formal identity credentials, or the ability to consent without assistance. I propose that RIUP develop a report identifying inclusion risks, underserved-user scenarios, delegation requirements, fallback mechanisms, and practical recommendations so that MyTerms does not unintentionally become another prerequisite for accessing essential services. This would build directly on RIUP’s work around digital identifier inclusion, Inclusive Purpose Consent Query, Subject Delegation of Authority, plain-language vocabulary, and underserved-user scenarios. I would welcome feedback on the attached proposal and whether the group thinks this is worth taking forward as a RIUP work item.
