I’ve just started reading, I haven’t so much details, but from an architecture standpoint, GAIA X will provide a digital ecosystem (federated and distributed) for the creation of advance smart services (see below picture)



One of the key component will be an Identity & Trust service for managing federated access across the providers.

Even if the current documentation doesn’t provide clear end-to-end view about the end-users access to the smart services, I believe that an additional layer of service for providing an User-managed access to the data will be necessary.

"Data-driven ecosystems build on the availability, the storage, and the processing of data, or in general, the usage of data. In this regard the provider (or owner) of the data provides access to the data, but still demands control over the usage of the data to comply his responsibility. Therefore, mechanisms beyond access control are required and must be part of negotiations between the data Provider and data Consumer” (Par. 5.3 Technical Architecture).

The idea/vision is to promote UMA as GAIA X Authorization Layer as Service components for providers, which provides a common and standard API for controlling data sharing at smart service level.
