Hi everyone,

I finally stopped just “lurking” and joined UMA as a voting member.

Eve suggested that I introduce myself and let you know why I’m joining the Umatarians.

My interest in UMA started while working for Mike Davis, VHA Security Architect, on the Privacy on FHIR [PoF] project, led by ONC and VA, which resulted in a demo at HIMSS 2015.

A number of UMA/HEART members were actively involved including: Debbie Bucci, Justin Richer, and Adrian Gropper.

And while the PoF project is done or dormant, that work just keeps progressing here, at HL7, IHE, and in ONC projects.

Right now, I’m primarily focused on the HL7 FHIR Privacy and Security side of things, and there’s increasing interest, talk, pressure for convergence between HL7 FHIR Privacy and Security with UMA/HEART where it makes sense – e.g., using HL7 Security Labels as OAuth claim tokens.

As a newly elected cochair of HL7 Security WG, I’ll be joining John Moehrke, another cochair, Glen Marshall, and others who regularly attend or monitor UMA to find ways for HL7 Security and Community Based Collaborative Care [CBCC] Work Groups to collaborate.

I will also be looking for synergies with the ONC Patient Choice project, which I am currently working on as well.

I’m looking forward to the opportunity to be more involved and getting to know the other UMA members.

Thanks, K
