White House Advances "Trusted Identities" Program
Hey Guys, Hope this finds you all well... Have you heard about this "Trusted Identities" program? FYI http://www.darkreading.com/authentication/167901072/security/privacy/2290004... Since I had not seen anyone comment or raise this in our group, I wanted to reach out and get the collective opinion of this... This sounds very much like what we were up to in the Liberty Alliance Program, now Kantara... I am not really sure what/why the US Govt is trying to do here given that the industry is already working to do this, and have been for quite a while. Are they going to "choose" one system and mandate it within its physical borders? Is this a mess waiting to happen or can it ever be "real, effective, and scaleable?" Inquiring minds need to know. -- Rob Marano (E) robmarano@gmail.com Arnold H. Glasow - "Success is simple. Do what's right, the right way, at the right time."

Mary, Thanks so much for posting the notes. I assume you meant that Wednesday's call will be at 1PM PT, 4PM ET. Unfortunately I have a conflict at that exact time and can't attend for at least 30 minutes. I'll try to join as soon as my meeting is over. The treatment of personal IdM in the U.S. is shaped in substantial measure by a messaging by the media and lobbying community that conveys a hostility to government - some of it extreme - where the government is always painted in negative terms. It is a perspective almost unknown elsewhere in the world. That perspective is reflected in some of the NSTIC dialogue last week. Has the calculus changed by recent events? --amr
Looking forward to the call. We have organized a dinner on Monday night in DC to support networking around this issue. http://iddinnerdc.eventbrite.com/ There are some meetings Tuesday as well http://www.eventbrite.com/event/1175506973/ http://www.eventbrite.com/event/1176327427/ We think it makes sense to support a list for those who want to continue to play close attention and collaborate as a community around NSTIC as it moves forward to the announcement. Do people agree? I mean if "everyone" on the community lists wants to keep hearing about this stuff we can keep chatting here. See you in 5! -Kaliya On Jan 11, 2011, at 12:12 PM, Mary Ruddy wrote:

Kaliya, so far I see no objection to continuing discussion of NSTIC on this community list. As a potential piece of identity infrastructure, it seems to be of significant interest to most of us on the list. Just my .02, =Drummond On Wed, Jan 12, 2011 at 12:53 PM, Kaliya <kaliya@mac.com> wrote:

The US Gov't is getting involved in such a manner at to have public and citizens bear the risk while industry is able to profit. It will make the removal of Glass-Steagal look like a brilliant move. On Tue, Jan 11, 2011 at 1:39 PM, Rob Marano <robmarano@gmail.com> wrote:
