IEEE-SA is hosting a number of hangouts related to Augmented Reality

Hi Keith,
I had a first look at this solution. As far as I understand it "Things" show their Identity as a user turns by.
I think it's quite clever....and rather local. But this is not an disadvantage.
In general this could be a complimentary solution to our relationship based data base.
This could be a way how Things could feed the database with basic info.
...on the other hand I'm a bit skeptical about the physical connection.
Do we have everywhere Bluetooth, WLAN, NFC? This could be challenging in reality.
(e.g. my device has mostly Bluetooth disabled, it has no NFC)
So far...Ingo

Hi Ingo!
I'm very happy to help!
Would love to hear your comments on the github physical-web project before the next call. It is not applicable for all use cases, but is certainly an interesting approach.
Are you coming to the https://identityworkshop.eu/ this year? It would be nice for one of the streams to be about IDoT.
Cheers,

We discussed apart from "relationship" -based discovery (something we discussed during the last conf calls and at recent Kantara events) a second "most-likely" important concept called "block-chains".
Block chains are mentioned in various papers (e.g. IBM white paper http://ibm.biz/DeviceDemocracy) They are already in use with Bit coins or the Etherium service https://www.ethereum.org/.
Scott sent a link about certificate transparency (experimental RFC 6962<http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6962>). In fact the basic principle is comparable with "block chains" because it about tracking/auditing/logging certificates in order to identify suspected ones.
Action item (Ingo):
"Block chains" seems to be a very interesting topic. Mattoe (Excalibur) is currently very active in this topic. Ingo wants to setup a block chain dedicated call with Matteo in one of our future conf calls.
Benoit sent a link about Google "Physical Web" https://google.github.io/physical-web/ .
Action Item (All):
Everybody looks at "Physical Web" approach and we discuss it next time.

Hi all,
As mentioned during today's call, here some info on the new "Physical
Web" by Google. As far as I understand (but I didn't read the doc in
details), its main characteristics are :
. it's a discovery service: a smart object broadcasts (e.g. over BLE)
relevant URLs that any nearby device can receive (*)
. an URL is associated with each object; this URL can be opened with
any application (e.g. a web browser)
. a web page is associated to the URL. The URL can change through
time; the web page can request credentials etc.
(*) I realize that this URL may correspond to a resource that is not
located in the object itself. In that case, the object is just a beacon
that gives an entry point to a service.
See
https://google.github.io/physical-web/
and
https://github.com/google/physical-web
At the same time, someone told me about dweet.io, a start-up the has
deployed a service also based on URL as an identifier for object, but
with apparently a different approach. See https://dweet.io/

Hello all,
Following my mention on today's call, let me link to the page about certificate
transparency <http://www.certificate-transparency.org/>, which is now the
experimental RFC 6962 <http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6962>. Quoting from
the RFC:
This document describes an experimental protocol for publicly logging
the existence of Transport Layer Security (TLS) certificates as they
are issued or observed, in a manner that allows anyone to audit
certificate authority (CA) activity and notice the issuance of
suspect certificates as well as to audit the certificate logs
themselves. The intent is that eventually clients would refuse to
honor certificates that do not appear in a log, effectively forcing
CAs to add all issued certificates to the logs.

Dear All,
I promised last time to send around IBM whitepaper and links about IoT. Sorry for the delay ☹
I like the paper because it shows also some critical points like broken business model, lack of functional value, privacy etc.
Other interesting points are:
- They foresee p2p infrastructure as a predominant topology (like we talked about nodes and super – nodes in our last call)
- They describe quite good a trust-concept I mentioned last time in our call block chains
- And also very interesting is the idea of trustless-p2p messaging

Hi all and happy Monday,
I wanted to share some slides that I delivered a couple of months ago on
the topic of security vulnerabilities in the IOT. It was a brief and
informal presentation, not attempting to be exhaustive, but it does include
some recommendations near the end. I would appreciate comments on those
recommendation in particular, but would also be glad to hear about other
flaws that folks think may be relevant to the topic.
Best,
Scott
