Hi Scott,
Last Friday you introduced some ideas regarding Entity Relationship Modelling the Identities of Things.
Thank you very much – for your presentation. Ingo and me have the ERM issue in our mind for a long time.
I think your ERM is a good starting point – as you show at slide 3 and 6
[cid:image002.png@01CFB654.A340BA30]
A missing key indicator in the IoT ID landscape is the information in rhomb !
In an IoT example: a sensor – belongs, is owned, scales, ……- something
I think we need rather filled/stuffed/intelligent links between objects, instead of poor SQL links .
I would like to start a discussion in our group about mechanism whereby we can find an object based on the relationship. (rhomb in slide6)
Have a nice day – see you
Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Viele Grüße / Best Regards

My quick action items:
* Here's the link to join the Kantara SDO liaison subcommittee, to participate in the email list and access the review files on the wiki: http://signup.kantarainitiative.org/liaison-sub-committee/
* TSCP workshop: http://tscpworkshop.com/ I think we're participating in the "securing the supply chain" track
My longer term action items:
* Re-visit ITU-T's OID as an namespace model in light of XRI's capabilities
* Review SCAP's Asset Identification standard (and Common Platform Enumeration (CPE), Common Vulnerability Enumeration (CVE)) as namespace models
* Share Kantara's comments about identity proofing non-person entities from last year's comment process with the list.
Whew. Have a good weekend!

A rundown on what I think are relevant things about SCAP's Asset
Identification standard to this group:
- It provides a naming scheme for the types of objects listed in section
5.3 (person, org, system, software, database, network, service, data,
computing device, circuit, website)
- Same section describes the following types of identifiers:
- *literal identifiers* are pre-defined values that can define an
asset, e.g. MAC address
- *synthetic identifiers* are used when an identifier is assigned to
the asset, e.g. hostname or IP address
- *relationship identifiers* (!) where there is information that
relates an asset to another asset
I have some quibbles with the document but overall it's very good. It
focuses on the IT-sphere rather than the entire IOT but with protocol
extensibility it could be a good approach to identification. Discovery is
still the harder problem.
Attached is my diagram representing the data model used by the standard.

Hi All,
as discussed I had a look at XRI protocol. I don't think that XRI is a solution for an Object Name Service, but is has remarkable features that are extremely useful for IDoT.
Hope to talk with you about it in our todays ConfCall.

Dear All,
I hope you are all doing well.

Hi all,
I received the helpful feedback that my earlier diagram was not really a
Venn diagram. This presentation uses Entity Relationship Modeling to
capture the relationships implied by that one. Maybe we can discuss on
tomorrow's call.

Sal,
Thanks for your earlier noodling, here's a somewhat delayed response. I
focused on the entities (thus dropping security and privacy) and added
devices as you had suggested in your original email. The intersections
between the main circles become relationships between the entity types, so
for example a person can have a role in an organization, a device can
belong to a person or an organization.
There's an upcoming Kantara seminar on Identity Relationship Management
<http://tscpworkshop.com/?session=identity-relationship-management-business-…>
at
the TSCP Symposium on 2014-09-24 that I believe Ingo Friese will be
attending, maybe we DG-IDOT can work on this to develop something concrete
to offer at the workshop.
Maybe we can discuss this in the next Kantara IDOT call (2014-08-08).
Regards,
Scott
